Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is there any cost to submit a film?

No. Both the submission and the review by the UnivFilms curatorial team are free of charge.

What is the deadline?

Submissions remain open until September 15, 2026.

What kind of work can be submitted?

Feature, medium-length and short films, documentaries, series, miniseries, animation, and children's or faith-based content. The film must be finished and available for screening.

Can films from other countries take part?

Yes. The call is open to Brazilian and international productions, provided the person submitting holds the rights or the authorisation needed to present and negotiate the film.

Does the film need to be registered with ANCINE?

Registration with ANCINE, the Brazilian film agency, is considered according to the nature, origin and commercial status of the film. If your production is not registered yet, say so in the form. Our team may later ask for registration or equivalent documentation.

Do I need to send the original file now?

No. At this first stage you only need to fill in the form and provide a link to watch the complete film.

Can I send only the trailer?

No. A trailer can be included as supporting material, but our curatorial team needs access to the complete film in order to assess it.

Can the link be password protected?

Yes. In that case, include the password in the form and keep it valid throughout the review period.

How long does the review take?

It depends on how many films we receive, how long they run, and whether further assessment is needed. UnivFilms will get in touch as soon as the review is complete.

How will I hear the result?

The result will be sent to the email address or WhatsApp number given in the form.

What happens if my film is selected?

The UnivFilms team will contact you to request documents, details of the legal representative, technical materials, promotional files and any other information needed to negotiate and draw up the contract.

Does approval guarantee international distribution?

No. Selected films may be considered for streaming on UnivFilms and for possible national or international distribution opportunities. Each possibility depends on the profile of the film, the rights available, commercial interest and a specific contract negotiation.

What materials might be requested after approval?

We may request: the master file, trailer, poster, photographs and stills, synopses, credits, subtitles, age rating, proof of registration, proof of ownership, clearances for image, music and other rights, details of the legal representative and the production company, bank details for future payments, and any other documents needed for the contract and for distribution.

Can I submit more than one film?

Yes. To keep things organised, please fill in a separate form for each film.

Does UnivFilms guarantee that every film will be approved?

No. Every production goes through curatorial review. UnivFilms may approve, decline, or request further information.

Your film is ready.

The next step is putting it in front of an audience.

The new UnivFilms is on its way. We are building a catalogue of stories that cross borders, represent different cultures and find new viewers.
